What is Research and Innovation Action (RIA)?
Research and Innovation Action (RIA) represents a funding model within the Horizon Europe program. RIA supports research and innovation activities aimed at establishing new knowledge, technologies, products, or processes. Under these grants, the funding rate is set at 100% of eligible costs for all participants. Supported activities range from basic research to laboratory validation and prototype design.
Expected outputs typically reach Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 4 to 5, starting from an entry level of TRL 2. Deliverables include new findings, methodologies, models, algorithms, prototypes, experiments, and scientific publications. The main goal is to advance technology from laboratory conditions toward real-world environments and verify its functionality. Project implementation requires a consortium consisting of at least 3 partners from 3 different EU Member States or associated countries.
RIA vs. IA (Innovation Action)
RIA places a stronger focus on research activities, whereas Innovation Action (IA) targets the development, implementation, and commercialization of concrete innovative solutions.
