What is Ex-post payments?
An ex-post payment is one of the mechanisms available to European Union (EU) grant beneficiaries for drawing project funding. Under this procedure, payment requests can only be submitted after specific project activities have been completed. Ex-post funding allows applicants to document project-related costs after they have actually been incurred.
Principle of ex-post payments
Ex-post payment means that grant funds are disbursed to the beneficiary retroactively, after the approved project expenses have been paid. The recipient must first finance the project (or a stage of it) from their own capital or a loan and demonstrate that the costs were actually covered and meet all grant conditions (e.g., through invoices, bank statements, and contracts). Only then does the provider release the financial contribution for the approved expenditures.
