The European Defence Fund (EDF) provides financial support for joint research and development in defence technologies and capabilities across EU member states. Its objective is to strengthen the EU's technological sovereignty, increase defence spending efficiency, and encourage innovation in the defence industry. With an allocated budget of approximately €8 billion for the 2021–2027 period, it finances both research and development phases. Businesses, research organisations, and universities can participate through a project consortium consisting of at least three entities from three different EU/EDA countries.
