Creative Europe is a directly managed European Union programme designed to foster cultural and creative sectors, including performing and visual arts, literature, music, cinema, television, gaming, and cultural heritage. For the current 2021–2027 programming period, it builds upon the previous 2014–2020 framework, during which Czech applicants secured over €24 million in funding.
The programme is structured around 3 main strands:
- Culture: Backs transnational cooperation projects in cultural and creative sectors outside the audiovisual realm.
- Media: Focuses on supporting the European film and audiovisual industries.
- Cross-sectoral strand: Encourages innovative actions at the intersection of culture, art, and technology, while offering dedicated support for news media and media literacy.
Key Objectives of Creative Europe
The principal ambitions of the programme are to:
- Protect, nurture, and promote Europe's cultural and linguistic diversity as well as its heritage,
- Enhance the economic potential and global competitiveness of cultural and creative industries,
- Introduce new measures that assist sector recovery and accelerate the transition toward a more inclusive, digital, and environmentally sustainable cultural landscape.
Who Can Apply for Creative Europe Grants?
Each call for proposals defines specific priorities and goals within its call document. The primary evaluation criterion is the degree to which the proposed project aligns with these defined objectives.
Funding under Creative Europe is open to legal entities, including sole traders. Additionally, individual creators and professionals can apply through the dedicated short-term mobility call Culture Moves Europe, which operates exclusively within the Culture strand.
